Construction Trail @BuildRadarCA

The trades go well beyond electricians, plumbers and carpenters. A few students may not hear about: • Instrumentation technician • Millwright • Steamfitter • Boilermaker • Heat and frost insulator Ontario has 144 trades. Worth exploring more of them. Construction Trail

The free Level Up! open house is Oct. 14, 3–7:30 p.m., at McIntyre Community Centre, 85 McIntyre Rd., in Schumacher, Timmins. Ask: Do you sponsor apprentices? What do beginners need? What does the workday look like? Go with questions. Leave with people & pathways to follow up.

A trades career gets clearer when you talk to someone doing the work. Tomorrow in Timmins, students, parents and career changers can meet employers, apprentices and instructors—and ask how people get their first start. That’s a conversation worth having. Construction Trail

🇨🇦 Construction Trail | Oct. 12 scan 📍 8 provinces covered 🏗️ 14 project, training & policy signals 🟢 2 open tenders + 1 funding window Tracking where money becomes work: project stages, named contractors, upcoming work packages and routes into jobs, contracts and training.

⛏️ Marathon mine, Ontario: planning → early construction underway. Current work includes access roads, earthworks, water systems, camp expansion and temporary power. The useful detail is what’s being built now—not just what the mine will produce. genmining.com/news/2026/gene…

🇨🇦 A major project creates work long before it opens—and long after. Before: design, permits, estimating. During: trades, equipment, supplies. After: operations, maintenance, logistics. For students, workers and small businesses: where do your skills fit along that trail?

2/2 The opening date starts another chapter. As cargo moves through, watch for equipment servicing, trucking, warehouse operations and site support. For a small business, knowing who will run the facility can be just as useful as knowing who is building it.

1/2 🚢 CT | Baie-Comeau — Beyond the Build An approximately $8M warehouse phase is underway within a $75M port upgrade. Jean Fournier is building it. QSL will operate it. Opening is expected spring 2027. Two companies to watch, for different reasons. investquebec.com/fr/salle-de-pr…

3/3 Before applying, ask SAIT: • Which employers offer placements? • Are placements paid, and how are students selected? • What jobs have graduates secured? Check entry requirements, total costs and intake availability here: sait.ca/programs-and-c…

2/3 Flying is one part of the work. Students also learn to collect and interpret data, plan missions and maintain equipment. For a student who likes technology and practical work, compare the courses with the skills employers ask for.

1/3 🎓 CT | Student Pathways — SAIT SAIT’s $30M aviation park caught my attention. Its two-year drone diploma covers flight, repairs, sensors and mapping. Those skills have applications in construction, agriculture, energy and environmental work.

🏗️ CT | Caledon Courthouse — Update 01 $30M build underway. Pomerleau named. Solar, EV charging and electric systems point to future electrical, controls and commissioning work. Next: watch trade awards and hiring. Checked Oct. 12, 2026. caledon.ca/en/news/town-o…

⚡ AI runs on power. Bell’s planned Saskatchewan hub could reach 1.2 GW, with up to $52.5B in investment and 4,500 projected jobs. The signal to watch: securing enough electricity and grid capacity. Planned project; no open jobs or contracts confirmed.

🏗️ Canada’s major projects move through many stages before work begins. Construction Trail tracks those changes—from funding and approvals to contractors, procurement and construction—so it’s easier to see what’s confirmed and what may come next. 🧭

I checked the breakdown: 1,672 seats are at Windsor, 297 at Lambton and 108 at St. Clair. Lambton has 47 seats listed for trades; all 108 of St. Clair’s seats are in health. Next, we’ll watch for the specific programs and intake details.

If you’re considering one of these programs, check with the school to see which courses received the new seats, whether applications are still open for fall, and if work placements are included. The funding adds capacity, but it doesn’t guarantee admission or a job.

Ontario just funded 2,077 additional postsecondary seats at Windsor, Lambton and St. Clair in STEM, health, education and trades. Some may be available for fall 2026. Before choosing a program, what should students check? 🧵

Marathon Mine | Update 01 As of Oct. 11, early works are underway near Marathon, Ontario: access roads, clearing, water systems, camp expansion, earthworks and temporary power. No open tenders confirmed. We’re tracking which work packages move to named contractors.

FANCSY | WINDSOR Phase 1's first structural pour is complete; EllisDon manages enabling works. Infrastructure Ontario is procuring Phase 2: a five-storey diagnostic and treatment block. We map stages, buyers and verified tenders/jobs. infrastructureontario.ca/en/news-and-me…

TRAINING | PORT HOPE Funding announced: $9.8M for a millwright training centre led by UBC Millwright Local 2309. Target: 2,550 apprentices, journeypersons and new entrants trained over five years in welding, rigging and industrial maintenance. news.ontario.ca/en/release/100…
