Pattern I've noticed: Agencies that show you beautiful mockups in week 1 tend to disappear by month 6. Agencies that spend week 1 asking "why?" and "who are your users?" tend to stick around for years. Flash vs substance. The ones who take time to understand usually care about outcomes, not just deliverables.

Your website is slow because of "invisible" code. Example I found last week: - Site loads in 9 seconds - Content is 500KB - JavaScript bundle is 3.2MB Translation: User downloads 6x more code than content. Modern frameworks fix this (code splitting, tree shaking, lazy loading). Quick check: Open DevTools → Network tab → Refresh If JS is bigger than your actual content, you have a problem.

3 signs you DON'T need a custom Next.js site yet: 1) You haven't validated your offer (no sales = don't spend on tech) 2) You're pre-revenue and bootstrapped (Framer/Webflow will do) 3) You have under 1,000 site visitors/month (traffic first, then optimize) Save the £15K. Use it for ads or hiring. Build custom when speed/scale actually matters.

@llm_san The "trying to socialize??" is too real. I've learned: Something gives. Either you accept that for this season, or you burn out trying to keep all plates spinning. For me it was: Pick 3 max, rotate the 4th monthly. Socializing became "gym with a friend" to double up.

@jonbrosio Spot on. I've seen agencies pitch "custom CMS" when the client's real need was "make changes without a 2-week delay." Same product, different framing. One sells features, the other sells freedom. The result is what they'll pay for.

Pro tip: Before hiring any web agency, ask: "What happens if I need changes 6 months after launch?" If they hesitate or say "we can quote you" → RUN. You're not buying a website. You're choosing a partner who'll either stick around or disappear when you need them most.
