What changed since the secret October 1st update? Here it is: 1/ Hot streaks The hot streak penalty is gone. 2K tracks whether your team is making more than expected. Running hot used to shrink your contested green window: 4 makes over expectation cut it by 66%. That multiplier is now 1.0 at every streak level. Running hot costs you nothing. 2/ Hot streaks, example Rec, 95 three, lightly contested. Your green window is 23.7 ms at an even streak. On Oct 1, 2 makes hot cut it to 15.4 ms and 4 makes hot to 8.2 ms. Now it stays at 23.7 ms no matter how hot you are. Wide open shots also no longer lose 5% when hot. 3/ Contest nudge A hot streak also made the game treat a lightly contested shot as heavily contested on a second chance check. That nudge is now zero. 4/ Mid-range Proving Grounds and Crew Divisions mid-range got a real boost. The mid-range slider went 0.38 to 0.43, matching Rec and City. Wide open 15 ft with an 85 mid: 55% to 64% (+9). Lightly contested: 38% to 43% (+5). Corner threes gain 3 to 5 points because they blend in the mid value. 5/ Threes at the line, by mode Threes at the line moved differently by mode. Wide open 95 three: Rec 46% to 47% (+1.4), Crew 39.5% to 41% (+1.6), Proving Grounds 39.5% to 39.6% (flat), City 46% to 45% (-0.7). Proving Grounds and City had their three-point slider lowered, which cancels the new open-shot bonus. 6/ Deep threes Threes from 26.5 ft and back got a real boost. Wide open 95 three at 29.5 ft: 25% to 29% (+5). At 32 ft: 21% to 25% (+4). With a 99 and Legend Limitless at 29.5 ft: 36% to 43% (+7). Green window at 29.5 ft grows from 18 to 22 ms in Rec. Same in every mode. 7/ Open shots Open and wide open jump shots from about 12 ft out got a bigger bonus (multipliers up 3% to 4%). In Rec and Crew that is +0.7 to +1.6 points on a three. In Proving Grounds and City the lower three-point slider eats it. Lightly contested and tighter shots don’t get this bonus. Proving Grounds threes did not get better. The lowered three-point slider cancels the open-shot bonus almost exactly. A wide open 95 three at the line is 39.5% to 39.6%. Lightly contested threes there lost about 0.7 points. City threes got slightly worse. The slider drop costs 0.7 to 1.5 points on every three at the line. Rec and Crew threes gained. Wide open threes rose 1.2 to 1.6 points. Contested threes did not change. Mid-range in Proving Grounds and Crew is the biggest move. Wide open went up about 9 points. Lightly contested went up about 5 points, 55% to 64%. Deep threes gained about 5 points at 29.5 ft. Visual 3D on builderlab.us is already updated to the new numbers.

Ghost contests in 2K27, explained. Full breakdown on the blog: builderlab.us/blog THE BIG ONE The game checks for a contest twice: when you go up for the shot, and when the ball leaves your hand. Whichever is worse for you counts the most. So if a defender is on you when you go up, it's still a contest after he runs by or backs off. That's a ghost contest. HOW CLOSE When you go up: he counts within 7 feet, fully inside 4. At the release: his body or raised arm has to be within 5 feet of the ball, fully inside 3.5. Farther than that, he adds nothing. WHERE HE IS In front of you or beside you counts. Behind you counts for nothing, even if he's touching you. A defender turned away from you loses most of his contest. HANDS UP A real contest (contest stick, a jump, hands-up movement, or a reach) is about 60 to 70% stronger than standing there with hands down. RUN-BYS A run-by works because of that first check. What matters is whether your hands are up at the moment he goes up. Hands up = Light Contest. Hands down, just running = Bothered. Running straight at him counts way more than running across him. PUMP FAKES A defender in the air counts in full, even while he's coming down. He only stops counting once his feet hit the floor, and then he's worth nothing for about half a second. So don't shoot while he's falling. Wait for him to land, then go up right away. CHALLENGER It makes your contest stronger: 5% Bronze, 10% Silver, 15% Gold, 20% HOF, 25% Legend. It only works on jump shots from 10 feet out, when you're in front of the shooter, within 6 feet, with your hands up. Hands down or behind him = nothing. DEADEYE It cuts the contest at the release: 5, 10, 18, 28 or 40% by tier. It helps most against a defender who gets there late. Against a defender who was set in front of you the whole time, it only helps a little. REACHING A reach counts as a contest while it's happening. If your reach is still going when he goes up, he gets contested. If it already ended, or it pulled you past him, it reads open. DEFENDERS STACK Each defender gets his own score and they're added up. Two guys a little close can equal one real contest. A 99 Perimeter Defense contests about 65% harder than a 60. THE WORD ON SCREEN It's a range, not a number. Two shots that both say "Light Contest" can be very different. For an 85 three in Rec, the low end of Light is about a 25% make on a non-green and the high end is about 17%. WHAT DOESN'T CAUSE IT Lag: online, every console runs the same game off everyone's button presses, so lag can't invent a contest. It just delays inputs. Hot streaks: they shrink your green window on contested shots, but they don't change the word. Oct 1 made that a little weaker.

Adrenaline affects shooting.** Each boost spent subtracts 10 points from the rating used for that shot. An 85 becomes 75, 65, then 55 with none left, before other modifiers. **2. Hot zones change the shot rating.** Cold: −2. Neutral: 0. Hot: +2. Lethal: +4. Those are rating points, not extra percentage points of makes. **3. Being hot or cold matters separately.** Frozen: −6. Cold: −3. Warm: +3. Hot or Takeover: +6 to the ratings in that skill group. This basic adjustment doesn’t boost Speed, Agility, Strength or Vertical. **4. Some NBA roster players have a hidden contest advantage.** Unfazed reduces contest strength. Examples include Curry and Lillard at 12%, Luka and Bird at 16%. That doesn’t mean 16% more makes. **5. Certain shooting badge bonuses share a +30 cap.** Their qualifying Bronze through Legend bonuses are +4, +8, +11, +15 and +19. Two qualifying +19 bonuses reach +30, not +38. This cap doesn’t cover every badge effect. **6. Yes, getting taller above 7 feet can make threes harder.** The researched height adjustment has no cut at 7′0″ or below, then roughly 7% at 7′1″, 12% at 7′2″ and 20% at 7′3″. A 50% starting chance becomes about 46.5%, 44% or 40% from that factor alone. **7. Meter off gives 10% more timing room.** A 30 ms jumper or layup window becomes 33 ms. This researched bonus doesn’t apply to the skill-dunk meter. **8. Active takeover can widen the window further.** Shot Artist and Calibrated give +50% for threes and shots beyond 20 feet, or +45% for ordinary mid-range shots. With meter off, a qualifying 30 ms window becomes 49.5 ms. The ability has to be active. **9. Low stamina lowers effective ratings.** With longer-term fatigue fresh, the shooting penalty begins below 61.11% of ordinary yellow capacity. With both blue extensions, that’s 43.65% of the whole expanded meter. An 85 Three-Point plays as about 83 at half ordinary capacity, 79 at a quarter and 32 at empty, from stamina alone. The last 10% of ordinary capacity adds a steep extra penalty.

A year in a name tells you what game something was first made for, not that it was never updated. A lot of it is still used in 2K27, and some of it is just leftover. Every yearly series reuses work. Locking animations up is a choice. 2K takes animations we already had, spreads them across seasons, hides them behind REP, puts a VC price on the rest, and sells it back to us as new content. That's not progression. That's charging us again for stuff we already paid for in past 2Ks. And even after all the grinding, you still don't get close to the full library older games gave us. It's not a technical limit. It's a business model built on making us grind and pay for the same animations every single year.
