I’m reading this book now, and I agree it beautifully motivates bottom-up embodied cognition approaches to AI. Reminded me somewhat of Braitenberg’s book “Vehicles”. (Should appeal to @SurviveThrive2).

Correlation does not imply causation, but causes will leave signals in the form of correlations. Don’t throw those signal babies out with the bath water. Use them to drive further investigation and test hypotheses.

Embodied Cognition is centered around a simple virtuous cycle: agents act to learn so they can learn to act. Exploration and exploitation are complementary motivators, essentially operating at all levels within a ranked hierarchy of needs.

I’m looking for research that studies reinforcement learning in embodied agents, where the reward is generated using an agent-specific combination of internal state & external observables, and actions can effect both of these inputs. Consider how consumption affects appetite.

We should try using the original Eliza psychiatrist chatbot of Joseph Weizenbaum as the prompt generator for ChatGPT, which appears to exhibit a new kind of mental illness or personality disorder. Has anyone tried this and shared the dialog?

The rise of interest in Responsible AI seems to be the direct result of the weaknesses and limitations of Deep Learning. It wasn’t a thing during the era of Knowledge-based Systems.

@togelius AGI: a mechanized embodied robot that can learn how to efficiently solve problem tasks associated with human life, either 1) by direct trial-and-error experience, 2) by observing others who are similarly learning or can already do said task, or 3) by being taught via language.

I'm looking for thoughtful comparisons between Constraint Optimization (CO) and Reinforcement Learning (RL). How are CO solution scoring rules similar to or different from RL reward functions? When would one approach be preferred over the other?

Consider this. For the estimated cost of building GPT-3 (most of which was for electricity and computer time for training), OpenAI could have raised and college educated 20 human beings. All of whom would know much more about the things they talk about that it ever will. #GPT3
