The University of Southern California is facing backlash after canceling a graduation speech by this year's pro-Palestinian valedictorian, citing security concerns. Asna Tabassum told CBS News' @carterevans she feels betrayed by the university.
@CBSEveningNews @carterevans Cancelling ? She’s a Jew hater who publicly posts it on social media. She also doesn’t believe in Israel’s right to exist.
@CBSEveningNews @carterevans Are we going to pretend like she’s an angel ?
@CBSEveningNews @carterevans First Amendment Rights only apply if you tow the AIPAC line and don't speak out of turn Don't dare call out #GazaGenocide despite Israel's ongoing trial at International Court of Justice on charges of genocide There's $$$ to be made arming the slaughter of women and children
@CBSEveningNews @carterevans She's a nasty, vile antisemite who only wants to use this opportunity to spout blood libels and antisemitic tropes. She is scum, who deserves no voice in a civilized society.
@CBSEveningNews @carterevans Not pro Palestinian, anti Israel. She tweeted about abolishing the state if Israel which is a dog whistle for genocide or ethnic cleansing
@CBSEveningNews @carterevans Why won't you guys show what she actually said? Maybe it's because you know it's vile and anti-Semitic, but you don't care.
@CBSEveningNews @carterevans No terrorist speakers at graduations!
The @USC’s cancellation of Asna Tabassum’s graduation speech won’t have anything to do with what she looks like. The “evidence” the USC provided was a concern relating to a hateful IG post she had previously written: wanting the removal of Israel. Nice try with the “I look what I look like, I am what I am” theory Asna. It won’t be misogyny either because she’s a woman. Pleased to hear a precautionary step was taken by a university to avoid an unapologetic student from potentially misusing an important event and offending the audience.
