I've tried from the time they could walk to get my boys interested in baseball, and they didn't care, didn't care, didn't care. And then one day, they start reading everything they can get their hands on, and within a couple weeks' time, we're having conversations like this ...
Boy 1: Dad, who do you think was the best second baseman? Me (thinking I'm about to name someone he's never heard of): I would say ... Joe Morgan. Boy 1: I agree. Some people say it's Craig Biggy-o, but I don't think he was actually that good.
And I was all at once astonished, deeply moved, amused at the mispronunciation, and reflexively disgusted at the dismissal of Craig Biggio as merely a compiler. It's a moment I'll never forget.
@CBSScottWhite Love this especially since I agree with you on Morgan. Just a thought but maybe your love of the game (which I’m sure you share) just took some time to take root. And CB was a keeper for sure.
@CBSScottWhite The Rogers Hornsby disrespect is not acceptable!!!
@CBSScottWhite My 14yo still does not give a rip. The 8yo chose to play soccer instead this spring, but loves watching w/ me. When he was at my parents a couple weeks ago he even asked if they could turn on baseball. Warmed my heart. Also asks about every player “Is he one of the best hitters?”
@CBSScottWhite I hope you remembered to stay cool. And I say this knowing I would probably not stay cool at all.
