The UK doesn't declare a National Emergencies. The prime minister has the power to declare a state of emergency but that needs to be ratified at the earliest possible time by parliament.

The intervonnector system allows us to buy in energy at a price that is cheaper than we could produce it here using gas. This is the main reason why we buy electricity.
