this kind of thing reinforces my long held belief that people are mostly fine with human suffering - and often pleased by it - as long as it happens outside their political tribe
the logic would be a) a person's suffering is justified because they subscribed to the wrong kind of politics. b) the right amount of suffering will correct the person's politics and worldview. i've had both thoughts. i get it.
somewhere in all this is the overarching belief that justice exists. it doesn't, of course - not without massive human intervention. but it's a nice thought.
@CDCarter13 so I take it you're not a fan of the Hermain Cain Awards sub on reddit
@CDCarter13 Might have been your Kicker teaks. IJS.
@CDCarter13 I think this extends beyond political tribe, maybe just "tribe". They may try to justify suffering but more likely its just easier to ignore than to care.
@CDCarter13 i know you said it jest but the politicization of the virus and the related response to it has been a sore spot for many. hard to interpret tone over the internet
@CDCarter13 This is too optimistic. I think it’s just a). They don’t care about redemption.
@CDCarter13 For b) what would this make you do, get more vaccinated??? I 100% get what you’re saying and have also been there, but my rage is mainly fueled by hypocrisy. If Covid is just the flu then stay home when you get it, Earl
@CDCarter13 3) the suffering you endure should be proportionate to the suffering you have (seemingly and/or indirectly) caused
