Fanny Jackson Coppin was an American teacher and missionary who became the first Black Woman in the U.S to head an institution of higher learning. Coppin State University, a Historically Black College (HBCU) in Baltimore, MD is named for her.

Montgomery County Public Schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, 2/20/19 due to pending emergency weather conditions. All school and community activities in school buildings also are canceled tomorrow. All childcare centers located in school buildings will also be closed.

Educator Booker T. Washington was one of the foremost African-American leaders of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, founding the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute, now known as Tuskegee University.
