Finally caught up with that lovely juvenile black tern at the Gearagh. Distant views and it disappears for long periods but nice to see it dipping in characteristic marsh tern fashion.

Reserve regular Rory O'Connor took this great shot of a Goldfinch about to land on their favourite food, teasel seeds. They have a specially shaped beak to extract the seeds from between the long spikes of the teasel. From its plumage, we know that this bird was born this year.

Incredible day, Humpback breaching seen from land, then later from boat. Then a minke whale breaching multiple times at sunset. Hundreds of great/ sooty shears! Common dolphins in massive numbers as well in Donegal Bay.

You have to move fast. I spotted this kingfisher on a twig right in front of the BT godwit, while driving alongside a quiet little estuary, pulled over, opened window, grabbed camera, and the darn bird flew. A great shot missed ☹️

Spotless and not so storm petrels from the recent Shearwater pelagic off the south coast.
