@brakeboosted Even 2025 PUs, very complex with the MGUH and all the links b/w the systems, were more simple because once you model the PU, there are no track specific changes, no K or H constraints other than basic limits. It's ridiculous how complex the supposedly 'simplified' 2026 PUs are.

@Rolando_tillit @HenryWi86212968 Imo, they should've just made the MGUH a spec component this reg set. Would've solved basically every problem while still retaining the 50/50 marketing split.
@iqwan_hbb But it's not 100% accurate obviously, because the track model needs to include all the Kerbs + amount of Kerbs they can take etc. Which is why apex speeds, especially in slow corners are one of the most inaccurate parts of the model. I'm trying to work on it.
@iqwan_hbb Yes, it calculates the optimal racing line based on the track width + speed. It's built using IPOPT in Python.
@Rolando_tillit @HenryWi86212968 Yup. The torque building up linearly felt much more 'responsive' to drivers on throttle.
@sferrero46 It's possible, the teams have found multiple seconds from the beginning of the year till now. Also, this assumes that 5% increase in fuel flow leads to a 5% power increase. It's always possible they find extra efficiency out of the PUs.

@HenryWi86212968 @Rolando_tillit To put it in perspective, 2004 V10 engines produced 350Nm peak torque, at peak. Not out of corners, but at peak of the curve. The 2026 PUs have a regulatory limit of 500Nm on the MGU-K alone, and that's instant.

Only 0.5s faster than the 2026 Cars, but that shouldn't be surprising, as 2027 PUs actually have ~30kW less peak power than the 2026 ones. But the power is more 'evenly distributed'. Much more deployment available on the back straight.
@Rolando_tillit Yeah I'm talking about Quali. I think 8MJ would be fine for 2027.
@HenryWi86212968 Yes. The engine needs much more time to rev up and produce peak torque, which happens at much higher revs. Compared to modern hybrid engines which basically get instant torque from the battery.
@s4shubh_ Only ICE. basically what would happen if you took a 2004 N.A 3.0L V10 and put it in the current day car (Obivously not that simple, but just a fun what if)

What happens if you combine F1 2026 Active Aero + F1 2025 Power Units in Monza? Absolute Destruction. 371 km/h Top Speed. 5.6G under braking into T1. Pole Record Beaten by 1.4 seconds.
