HOLY MOLY: Adam Schiff has just introduced a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens United and stop unrestricted dark money in our elections! This would truly return power to the American people.
Citizens United was one of the most egregious enablers of special interest money. This would be a great thing for Democracy. thehill.com/homenews/house…
@CalltoActivism To everyone saying “why didn’t Democrats pass this when they had the House majority”…. Constitutional amendments require 2/3 vote by BOTH House & Senate to pass. Meaning even when Democrats had House majority, it still wouldn’t have passed. Not even close.
@CalltoActivism At the very least… Dems need to scream loudly what this is and how overturning it will greatly limit dark money in politics… Then watch and scream loudly as the GOP opposes the measure, while STILL attempting to claim they’re against dark money in politics…
@CalltoActivism "This would truly return power to the American people." By attacking freedom of speech........hmmmmmm
@CalltoActivism Excellent -but it will never pass not in the foreseeable future. It suits Repubs and dark money too well.
@CalltoActivism Best news I have heard in a long time. Thank goodness for Adam Schiff
@CalltoActivism It’s a nice symbolic measure, but amending the constitution takes 2/3 votes in both houses of congress…before it even goes to the states for THEM to ratify. Schiff can’t do much while he’s in the minority. archives.gov/federal-regist…
@CalltoActivism Adam Schiff is an American Patriot I hope he will continue all the good work that he has always done
@CalltoActivism Quick question...why didn't he do that a year ago...when it had a chance to pass....maybe because he's a recipient of said dark money.
@CalltoActivism he introduced it now because he's hoping the new republican congress will vote against it. he could have passed this easily when we controlled both houses of congress and the white house months ago. I hope the GOP calls his bluff.
