Happy St George's Day! This should be a day everyone in England can celebrate together, whatever our backgrounds & whether born here or not. All too often Englishness is hijacked by the Right. My new book, #AnotherEngland, is my attempt - however small - to try to take it back🏴
@CarolineLucas Sadly with the Rwanda bill passing last night, with the abysmal state of the country, St Georges Day seems depressing. I want to rebel, shout, not in my name. #GeneralElectionN0W Tho not sure if our political system isn't so corrupted now & trust lost.
@CarolineLucas It should. Instead we wake up to the news that England has gone full-fat fascist with its disgusting Rwanda policy, and the knowledge that if St. George rocked up on Britain's shores today, he'd be forcefully removed to Rwanda, a country with a terrible human rights record.
@CarolineLucas My Dad, a staunch traditionalist in his 90s got your book for his birthday. He is absolutely loving it!
@CarolineLucas Nice to see you getting on the nationalism bandwagon Caroline. Bit late to the party, which is over tbh, but nice try.
@CarolineLucas What is this St. George of which you speak? I have never even heard of it?
@CarolineLucas This is a bit confusing. Take it back? Why did you write that? That's what the nationalists say. Englishness is not a thing. Unless everyone thinks and behaves in the same way. Please respond.
