The linguistic term is “hyperforeignism.” It’s when a non-native speaker poorly assimilates the wrong rule from the few cases they know. Eg, habanero->habañero (peppers have ñ, like jalapeño!), coup de grâce->pronounced “gra” (drop *all* final consonant sounds in French). Here,…

Kamala Harris may seem like a failure to the many minority communities of which she is an avatar, but know that she is a hero to us (people who are never sober in public).
Simultaneously true that 1. we don’t know for sure what ABC would have done in the absence of Carr’s threats 2. it would have been perfectly fine to yank Kimmel for the reasons highlighted below 3. Carr’s threats to ABC and other broadcasters are a threat to First Amendment…

No, the Supreme Court did *not* rule that "it was ok for the Biden Administration to pressure tech platforms to censor COVID lockdown skeptics." It ruled that plaintiffs lacked standing to obtain injunctive relief.
There is plenty of room to disagree with that ruling on standing,…

A lot of this take going around and it’s not wrong. But the implication is that if the best time to arrest a slide was yesterday, the next best time is now.
It’s not to spitefully glide into the abyss because the other guy started it.

I really don’t care if you liked Charlie Kirk or like Jimmy Kimmel. If you are unable to separate your partisanship from Kirk’s death being objectively tragic and horrific and the FCC chief’s threats being objectively outrageous and ominous, you are part of the problem.
I really dislike the present Supreme Court's total disinterest in mechanisms for accountability when the government violates the Constitution and if I controlled the presidency and both houses of Congress I would pass a law creating such a mechanism

Jimmy Kimmel seems like an idiot with BlueSky brain, but let's not forget that Fox News lied so egregiously about how the election was stolen that they had to pay nearly a billion dollars over it... and the Biden admin never threatened Fox with removing their broadcast license.
What the FCC is doing to Jimmy Kimmel is jawboning—plain and simple. I don't see how people could conclude otherwise, unless they're completely blinded by partisanship.
In a free market, it's fine for his employers to yank him off the air. It's wrong for the government to compel…

Unspeakable amounts of cope. If some dude who was apparently apolitical except for his ardent commitment to gun rights committed a murder over gun rights, we wouldn’t hesitate to call him a right winger. Thats where that position resides.

I kinda forgot you used to be able to browse twitter without an account. That’s how it should be. I have no interest in participating in bluesky but it’s nice that I can simply see what people are saying over there. I don’t know why Elon changed this but he should revert.
Can’t speak to UK norms but I’ve never agreed with US university policies limiting free speech around some nebulous notion of “feeling safe.” But since we have such policies de facto, this seems like a pretty straightforward application of that principle.
