The occupation of caring: today daddy had carers around him tending to his needs. This occurred on. It is however the Caribbean cultural perspective that is relevant as it wraps everything around my dads needs. Here with the Physiotherapist; the Chaplin; the visitor of 200 miles.
@judyskt This is all important But a certain group has *never* been adequately served by general secondary psychiatric services (even when resources were better) In the past they simply lived in asylums They need more than CMHT can offer (and that’s not a criticism of CMHT)
@nuwandiss Locally there seems to be so little actual care in the community... Long waits for beds, v little rehab,.
@nuwandiss I’d say we are sleep walking into this, but the government are doing it with their eyes wide open, in order to further stigmatise people with mental illness, instead of caring for them. Changed to benefits/ inadequate funding etc. I really worry about the proposed MHA changes.
@nuwandiss I’ve been telling younger colleagues about the tragic case of Jonathan Zito and how it led to changes in mental health care, and how now we seem to be rolling back on CPA/ AOT etc.

Working in the NHS differs from what you expect regarding values and psychological safety. Just because somebody is an authority doesn't necessarily mean they know how to lead. For some, it's just a job, and the passion is lacking. Staying true to self is important in the system.
I said recently in an interview that one of the skills required of a mental health nurse is maturity/life experience and on-the-ground experience in the sector in different teams. To understand the politics and observe what is good or bad leadership is in practice to know better.

Went to Tesco today to get supplies for various ailments in the family. Whilst paracetamol and ibuprofen are cheap, Buscopan was £6, strepsils were £6, rehydration tablets were £8. Vitamins were £5 ish The NHS asks people to get things OTC rather than prescribed, but they are £££
