According to the TRC, “in the context of transitional justice, memorials serve as prisms through which to see past, present and future.” This is the foundation of the Sierra Leone civil war memorial where people go to learn and commit to a present and future of nonviolence.

The Tomb of the Unknown Civilian at the Sierra Leone Civil War Memorial is a cenotaph honoring unknown persons in mass graves across Sierra Leone - those who were killed in the civil war. Students from Sanaya school visited this week. This visit was supported by @ATJLF_

We envisaged the Palmwine Corner at the Sierra Leone Civil War Memorial as a Socratic learning space where we discuss history and community peace. We are delighted to host students from Sanaya School to discuss the Sierra Leonean civil war and its transitional justice mechanisms.
