@MelvinWillingh3 @MayorBMScott With the amount of lives we positively impact, we could curb youth crime by getting to these kids BEFORE they go down the wrong path - hence my comment on being proactive as opposed to reactive. My program is in Sandtown/Upton yet they don't engage in bad behavior.

@MelvinWillingh3 @MayorBMScott The City continues to pump funding into solving the "disconnected youth who squeegee" and none of those efforts seem to help the problem, yet organizations such as mine have served and saved thousands over the years, yet many of us struggle to find a place to practice.

@FOXBaltimore Maybe if they were allowed inside of the rec, the outcome could have been much different! The Mayor is saying that there were many people in the area at the time of the shooting - yes, however they were mostly children. Thankfully there weren't more casualties.

@FOXBaltimore The City stopped supporting many youth-focused programs several years ago and began focusing on programs that focus on rehabilitation & recidivism (i.e. Safe Streets). So rather than help guide the youth down the right path, they wait until they become criminals then rehabilitate

@CLorocco @MayorBMScott They're doing little to nothing. That child was killed OUTSIDE of the recreation center as the marching band rehearsed outside, in the rain in November. They don't allow rec centers to have activities that don't produce profit. Long gone are the PAL centers which served youth.

@MayorBMScott @RecNParks If recs are safe havens for kids, then why weren't those kids allowed inside of the rec? Instead, they had to rehearse OUTSIDE in the RAIN in NOVEMBER. That outcome could have been different. Doesn't sound like much of a safe haven to me!

@MayorBMScott @RecNParks All that money from the EIP, yet how much has been put into youth programs that REALLY have an impact? Millions promised to programs focused on recidivism but little to nothing given to the programs that help prevent people from becoming criminals.

@MayorBMScott @RecNParks Many of us already volunteer in the community. Any idea how many children are in marching bands? The city loves the bands when it's time for a parade but does NOTHING to support them. Bands are self funded and most kids cannot afford to pay so they end up turning to mischief.

@MayorBMScott Recs stopped being safe havens for kids when the city began requiring them to have "paying" programs. Y'all kicked the "kids" out a long time ago. Unfortunately, many of those displaced kids became misguided adults and now we're all paying for it 🤷🏾‍♀️
