Not only did I not have a parent with a PhD as far as I can work out I am both the first and still last generation to go to University in my immediate family (including next generation).

@Charlesknight It was only after decades working at a prestigious university, & studying education, that I realized I was from the low SES, first in family categories I had read about. That then explained why my outlook on university & study, differed from my colleagues. blog.highereducationwhisperer.com/search/label/F…
@Charlesknight Ditto. University was never signalled to be an option at school or family. Did the access route after a decade working. Never looked back. I maintain that it is a positive influence on my life, but faced with the current financial challenges, i’m not sure my younger self would
@Charlesknight Both my parents left school at 14. Discovered a few years ago that my mother had been 'in service' to a doctor for a while. Both parents supported me through my studies (1st generation) and I'm sure seeing me getting my PhD was quite a day for them.
