What is the language that we hear when we're in a local restaurant in Gijon or Ovieda, Asturias? That would be Asturian the language of region. It's a Romance language and at times sounds a little like Spanish but it's its own... omniglot.com/writing/asturi…

Most certainly a favorite past time in the Basque Country is eating. For sports there is Pelota Mano - similar to hand ball. Fronton (courts) can be found in even the smallest of villages. A simple outdoor court can... euskoguide.com/basque-sports/…

A favorite way for the Basque to visit with family and friends is over pintxos (pronounced "pinch - o's") and wine/cider/beer/vermouth. You can't go wrong with finding a tasty treat (pintxos) to have with your drink.

Bilbao and the amazing Guggenheim Museum - certainly a highlight of the Basque Country. A walk along the river into old town, an afternoon at the museum, a coffee or a vermouth before dinner. Life is good.

In the Basque country cider is aged in and served from large barrels. The cider is still (not carbonated) so one way to areate the cider is to catch the cider in your glass as it shoots out from the barrel.... facebook.com/CheeseStoreAVL…
