@ShinMarginalScr What? No it's not. Every worker in France is eligible to vote in union elections, whether they're in a union or not. No parallel system exists in the US or UK.

@Dietz__Tweetz @Eric_Erins It's extremely dramatic. You can walk everywhere. The food isn't poisonous. Life is cheap. People are more sociable and less stressed out about work. The weather's nice. Vastly higher level of ambient culture.

@Dietz__Tweetz @Eric_Erins Quality of life in most of Europe is much higher than in the US even accounting for lower average salaries.

@Eric_Erins The dream is to work remotely from a small town in southern Europe. You can take a pay cut from what you'd earn in person in the US and still live a much better life.

@SweatieAngle Funny how none of them seem to realize that the Louvre itself is an institution borne of the French Revolution lol

@Paul_Heron_ My god, man! The Louvre became a public museum during the Revolution! The Bibliothèque Nationale is filled with books seized during the Revolution! Every great French institution has its origins in the fact that some peasants stormed a prison and executed the king!

@Paul_Heron_ Every young person in France at some point or another goes to a manif. I did myself, when I lived there. It's part of the culture, and it's a sign the country is still functioning in a way most other western societies aren't.

@Paul_Heron_ The idea that the people can achieve political goals by protest strengthens social bonds, it doesn't weaken them. The fact that the French do this every few years is precisely what perpetuates French belief in their national myth of being a light to the world.

@Paul_Heron_ I would have thought you'd have spent some time in the country at least. They have major protests every couple of years, you think they just let small businesses go bankrupt? This is France, not the UK or the US.

@Paul_Heron_ They'll be reimbursed in full. Do you know nothing about France?

@Paul_Heron_ You're not going to build paradise without a few chimpouts. The French people are still sovereign, unlike the British or the Germans or the Americans, and what they want now is the end of the rule of the parasite class that you support. Nobody cares if a few cars get flipped
