It was a pleasure to speak to the UN’s Member States today about the work of my Office. My message: Human rights provide solutions to some of today’s most pressing challenges. ohchr.org/en/statements-…

Food is a basic human right. Yet around 645 million people faced hunger last year. We have the knowledge, technology & capacity to feed the world. It’s time to use it. Let’s ensure that every person, everywhere, has access to safe, nutritious & affordable food. #WorldFoodDay

Climate action isn't just about avoiding a worse future. It's about building a better one. A world where clean energy is affordable, the air is safer to breathe and communities are better protected from extreme weather is within reach. That's what #ClimateAction can deliver: unep.org/topics/climate…

Where a child is born should never decide the education they receive. Thank you @Malala, for standing up for that right and for every girl’s chance to learn, in Afghanistan and everywhere.

Food loss and waste has a climate cost: it generates 8–10% of global greenhouse gas emissions.  Food that is grown, transported and cooked but never eaten also wastes land, water & energy, while food in landfills produces methane.  Ahead of #FLWDay, see how cutting emissions also means acting to #StopFoodLossWaste: stopfoodlosswaste.org

📸 SNAPSHOT: Check out @INL’s Remote Handled Low-Level Waste Disposal Facility! This crucial nuclear facility ensures the safe, permanent disposal of waste that supports mission‑critical operations across INL. With 448 vaults, the site is built to handle 20 years of disposal capacity.

Invisible, toxic… and everywhere. Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) poison air, water, and soil—harming humans and ecosystems. No border stops these “forever chemicals“. It’s time to #BeatPollution: unep.org/interactives/b…

AUC Chairperson Arrives in New York for the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, @ymahmoudali accompanied by the Deputy Chairperson H.E. Ms. Salma Malika Hadadi, @DCP_Haddadi and a delegation of AU Commissioners and Heads of AU Organs, has arrived in New York to participate in the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA81). #UNGA81 is convened under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.” Against this backdrop, the Chairperson will amplify Africa’s voice and priorities, underscoring three key messages: - Africa must have a stronger voice in shaping global decisions. The African Union will advocate for a more representative, equitable and effective multilateral system, including meaningful African representation in the UN Security Council and international financial institutions. - Africa is taking greater responsibility for shaping its own future. The AU will highlight African leadership and ownership in peace and security, continental integration and economic transformation, while advancing institutional reform and greater financial autonomy. - Africa is an indispensable partner in addressing global challenges. The AU will position Africa not simply as a beneficiary of international cooperation, but as a strategic actor and partner in shaping global solutions — from peace and security and climate action to global health, trade, technology and sustainable development. During his stay in New York, the Chairperson is scheduled to hold a series of high-level engagements, including a meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General, as well as meetings with Heads of State and Government and leaders from the business community. The AU delegation will use the High-Level Week to convenient side-events that advance Africa’s strategic priorities and strengthen partnerships towards a more representative, effective, and responsive multilateral system. @OlumideIDOWU Good signal to boost. I'd encourage young people working on water, energy, or climate solutions to look at the Emerging Technologies track. From what I've observed, the network built during these six weeks lasts well beyond the program itself.

The Mandela Washington Fellowship is back, creating another valuable opportunity for young African leaders to strengthen their leadership, networks, and impact. If you meet the eligibility requirements, I encourage you to consider applying—one application can open doors to possibilities you may not yet have imagined.
