Yep. There was a transgender gal in my high school. Early 1970s. She kept it on the down low, but we became friends, so she told me. But intersex people (born w/ mixed parts) are way, way more common—about 1 in 100 births. I know several of them. They sometimes decide at puberty to switch from the gender their parents chose, or to go nonbinary. Complexity of gender & sexual preference is a thing in tons of species.
