With the help from Alan Rybczyk, going to prove a point about how regional colleges in NC tend to recruit players from NC, especially at the D2 + D3 level. Case in point, you don't have to leave the state to be recruited, whether it's travel ball or high school.
Let's look at some D1 schools in NC with number of players from our home state. Queens: 11-15 UNC-W: 9-15 HPU: 9-15 UNC-C: 6-15 NC A&T: 6-15 App. State: 5-15 NC Central: 5-15 UNC-A: 5-15 WCU: 5-15
Now, let's look at some D2 schools in NC with number of players from our home state. The percentage increases tremendously. This list will include walk-ons, etc. Barton: 26-33 Mt. Olive: 16-21 Brevard: 12-19 Fayetteville State: 11-15 UNC-P: 11-15 ECSU: 10-21
D2 schools continued Johnson C. Smith: 10-17 Mars Hill: 10-16 Chowan: 9-16 Lees-McRae: 9-20 Catawba: 7-16 Lenoir-Rhyne: 7-18 Shaw: 7-15 Wingate: 7-18 Belmont Abbey: 5-17 Livingstone: 5-18 St Augustine: 5-15 W-S State: 2-15 169-328 or 52% of rosters are filled by NC
Now, let's look at some D3 schools in NC Greensboro: 18-21 Guilford: 14-19 NC Wesleyan: 17-18 Pfeiffer: 11-19 William Peace: 15-17 75-94 or 80% of players from these schools are from NC
Moral of the story, mid-major D1s, D2, and D3 schools have a tendency to recruit regionally. If you're a grassroots travel ball team, you don't have to travel 7-10 hours away to be seen + recruitied.
D2 + D3 schools especially don't have the budget to travel or recruit that far away. Take it for what it's worth, your chances to be recruited increase if you stay closer to home.
