What I have lurnt so far from working with compute shaders is that you can't just directly translate CPU-multithreading to GPU-multithreading, and it requires a lot of rearchitecting in order to work as good as possible... ;w;) ;_;)

@zimmed_io @SebAaltonen Here’s how I divide up my 544-byte packet payloads into 16-byte blocks. 1-4 packets sent to each client per tick depending upon server load (4 at 32k CCU and under, scaling down as it rises from there).

@Colonthreee OVH bare metal servers. Slightly higher base price but completely worth it if you’re going to use a large amount of bandwidth. The only other option I’ve found would be just directly hosting it yourself using bandwidth directly from an ISP. Skip the middleman.

@SebAaltonen I use AES instructions on my server too, but I would never use TLS. That’s simply not scalable. WebSockets is definitely not worth using. You’ll leave yourself vulnerable to DDOS attacks. You either want WebTransport/QUIC/UDP stack or you could also look at hacking WebRTC’s…

@Colonthreee @SebAaltonen @SebAaltonen, I’m the only one that I know of that’s made an MMO server with support for 100k+ CCU on a single node. It costs me only $2k a year to host. If you parallelize things and have O(N/P) worst-case algorithms in place, compute is not really a major bottleneck to worry…
