Christmas is about a family finding safety as refugees. Christmas is about believing what a woman said about her sex life. Christmas is about a child in need receiving wealth from rich men. Christmas is about the divine choosing to be among the lowly and the marginalized.

When it’s useful for the oppressor, they’ll take the Bible literally. When it challenges the oppressor, they’ll call it just a parable.

Our growth in holiness depends on our relationship of love with our brothers and sisters. The life of grace cannot be lived in isolation. Our holiness is woven into the fabric of our communion as brothers and sisters. We are never alone on the way of salvation.

“There are two ways of being a prophet. One is to tell the enslaved that they can be free. It is the difficult path of Moses. The second is to tell those who think they are free that they are in fact enslaved. This is the even more difficult path of Jesus.” ― Richard Rohr

We strain ourselves beyond measure by overloading the present moment with leftover layers from the past and anticipated fears for an uncertain future. The only way to remain sane is to live in the present moment. A sign of sanity is to be connected with reality.
