@mr_saltz I’d say make it up in property and tolls. I also think you could borrow until rev makes back up for it. Also don’t repeal wage taxes just bring them down to 2%

@glbaumann @PhillyS69689421 @TismModer The funniest thing about saying West Chester being a city (15k) is half of them are students and it’s population was higher in the 70s when it had a train and 1/4 of downtown wasn’t street parking.

@gben78 @bobbyfijan Yeah but that’s not the whole picture and they have to pay for offices (1 just shuttered). The counties around Philly still have some additional county taxes and employees are paying out the ass in property taxes. (Except maybe bucks since they haven’t reassessed since the 80s)

@TismModer @PhillyS69689421 @glbaumann West Chester isn’t that big and is extremely expensive even without have a train to Philly. You’d have to drive to norristown, Philly is way cheaper and ovs has a lot more going on.

@bobbyfijan Eh kinda that might be true in places like DC vs Virginia but Philly is way poorer than all of it’s suburbs employers pay less in Philly than Kop. That could be true for parts of Chester though.

@gobluekmb @glbaumann They won’t because the City Council can’t take the short term hit on tax revenue. Birt taxes drop millions to the city so pet projects can be done, long term pain for short term gain. They are reducing them over time because they know it’s hurting but it’s a 15 year plan.

@mr_saltz I mean they should reduce the wage taxes to match the surrounding counties and end/change BIRT taxes

@PhillyS69689421 @glbaumann All the new developments in the burbs suck. Unless you can afford the mainline you are living in towns that are not pretty and commuting hours or you are paying a lot for towns like West Chester.

@glbaumann Here’s a good article on it, short term hits to next tax revenue for massive economic and population growth (which leads to increased tax revenue) especially with better investments in public transport- thephiladelphiacitizen.org/guest-commenta…
