A recent event by Guatemala's Secretariat of Social Welfare (SBS) highlighted youth from several detention centers learning vocational skills provided by partner organizations. The new skills will open doors for them as they reintegrate into society once they complete their time.

We were grateful to participate in a special celebration at Gaviotas, a juvenile detention center for boys in Guatemala. About 15 young people and their mothers gathered with staff for a day of music, poetry, art, dance, raffles, and refreshments. #Guatemala #SuccessAcademy

Beatriz, a 2022 Success Academy graduate, continues taking meaningful steps toward her future while raising her young daughter. Through ongoing mentoring and a #Counteract scholarship, she completed ninth grade and earned a certificate in primary health care. #youthministry
Emelyn, a graduate of our #SuccessAcademy, is completing her final year of high school and focused on earning her diploma. She is also participating in additional sewing workshops in her community, building on the skills she learned during her time at the Gorriones Center.
Karina, a 2019 #SuccessAcademy graduate, is continuing her education as one of #Counteract's scholarship recipients, studying early childhood & preschool education. She is creating opportunities for herself & a career that will make a difference in the lives of young children.

Ana is a graduate of Counteract's #SuccessAcademy and now participating in our aftercare program. She works as a bakery manager while completing high school. Ana is working to create a stable home environment for her two young children, and also supports her younger siblings.

After a #Counteract team member shared at church about the needs of some young women in our aftercare program, a family felt led to help. They donated diapers for Madelaine, a young mother sharing an apartment with her friend Tatiana, also preparing to become a young mother.
