The music business is based on the ownership of two copyrights, the sound recording & the underlying composition. Anybody saying, ‘if I buy a beat I won it, no splits’ or ‘if I buy a feature, you don’t get splits’ doesn’t know the music business at all. Period. Avoid them.

Producers get blamed for charging for beats… 🤦🏽 I really don’t like when an artist is frustrated by the music business and yet frames producers and engineers as the enemies. We’re all music makers. The systems the hurt you hurt us— low royalty streams, bad deals, etc.

‘Producers aren’t songwriters’ is the most ignorant myth people believe. Lyrics aren’t the only part of songwriting. Writing notes down is literally songwriting. People who make instrumental music have ALWAYS been considered song writers, legally. Producers, don’t get played.

@djpain1 no, its crazy cuz they didnt right half the song. I wrong the song Completely. A producer is just that not a songwriter. I dont mind going 50/50 cause we both win but againa writers share are for writers not producers

So I rarely send beat packs anymore via email unless I have to. I like to keep it old school..1v1 in the studio. Records are made better this way. Let's lock in a session. 🎹🔒🎶
