Best video I’ve found explaining the chemical aspect of the Ohio train disaster Extremely toxic liquid vinyl chloride was leaking so authorities planned a “controlled burn” but that created hydrogen chloride acid that clings to water Basically acid rain x.com/raleighfam/sta…
@DC_Draino its the addition of water that creates the Hydrochloric Acid, hence the controlled explosion to burn of the gas before it entered the water table.
@DC_Draino @FOcaolte There is a movie released in 2022 called “White Noise” about a toxic train derailment in Ohio. Mmmmhmmm.
@DC_Draino This seems like a disaster. How come it's not a bigger story??
@DC_Draino 1 thing, if my memory serves me correctly, toxicity in vinyl chloride dissipates very quickly w fire. There were other haz mat rail cars on that train. 100 rail cars, 10 or 12 haz mat, of those 5 erupted. It's a horrible disaster any way you look at it.
@DC_Draino So many interesting details the more I've looked into this. This feels like a complete shitshow similar to a mini-Chernobyl.
@DC_Draino They have some great advisors. No one thought about the possible chemical reactions on how best to deal with a leak of this specific chemical?? Did they ask the carrier who likely has procedures about this risk?
@DC_Draino @amuse In a concentrated cloud, yes it would make acid rain but once the particles spread out over several hundred or thousands of miles wont the acid become negligible?
@DC_Draino Thank you for explaining so clearly. Much appreciated.
@DC_Draino Why weren't these double walled tanks? Why weren't the tracks ahead of the train being inspected? Why weren't intersections given extra security? Why wasn't the train traveling at a slower speed? Why aren't the train company executives being investigated?
