@RodDuncan It helps if you split shoe purchases into ‘left shoe purchase - achieved’ and ‘right shoe purchase - achieved’. That way you have a better than 66% success rate.

@mark1854now @Liz_Lash ‘Thorough’ testing has never existed for anything. There is only a point at which forecast benefit outweighs known risk. In this case, the scale of known risk has shifted massively. Let’s not pretend comparisons should be made according to a world order that no longer exists.

@mark1854now @Liz_Lash “Look, I’ve finally made a sealant to fix up the lifeboat,” said Doc. “Wait,” said the crew, “shouldn’t we test it thoroughly to make sure it doesn’t give us something bad in thirty years? The water’s only up to our necks.”

@queenchristina_ @Telegraph @siobsi This does not correspond to what Worldometer is showing. Even so, comparing cumulative figures from a country that was one of the first to enter the crisis to those not yet at the peak would make an honest statistician cringe. Bad even by the Telegraph’s lowly standards.

@RodDuncan Unfortunately that only works for ‘unelected’ politicians. The electorate loves the sound of promises and ideological principle delivered as digestible soundbites. You are wrong to think ideology must be upheld or realistic. Ideologies are cartoons, strictly for entertainment.

@RodDuncan Try it with the statement, “Today is Thursday,” and see how you get on for the rest of the week.

@RodDuncan Empathy might seem desirable in a writer, but this must develop before a writing career, not during it. Once launched, writers live in darkened rooms without natural light, or human contact, surrounded by mouldering coffee cups, wrestling with imaginary demons and plastic mice.

@RodDuncan Summoning courage phase: sit with head in hands, repeat, “Oh, no, oh no, oh [insert chosen name for god], I am useless.” Repeat until blood leaks from one orifice or another. Voila! You now have all the ink you require.

@RodDuncan Could you Google and find out where it happened? I’ve been to try to find the battle site and there’s a plaque in a field that says they aren’t quite sure.

@megelison @RodDuncan Surely, this depends on whether you think of yourself as a ‘worker’ or an artist with freedom to sell their art and, crucially, to agree or not agree what the hell you like in your negotiations with a third party.
