We need tenant protections where there is so much housing that landlords have to compete for you to live there.
"No! Potential renters are complaining my unit is over priced, and has old inefficient appliances, bad water pressure, and lack of insulation. One even dared to tell me that the third bedroom is really a large closet! It's been on the market for months, and I'm lowering rent"
@DSAYIMBY At 6%+ interest rates, renting is ~50% cheaper then buying a house. There are property taxes, insurance, maintenance. All of these quickly adds up...
@DSAYIMBY We should prioritize home ownership and not lead an already persistent culture that doesn't own anything.
@DSAYIMBY Yeah, truly free markets that respond to demand signals rule, you guys
@DSAYIMBY @NimbyPatrol Landlords don’t set the rental price. The market does. Another is a combo of uncertainty. Need to incentivise new housing & existing landlords to keep the properties rented out. Uncertainty of interest rate, price of materials/labour can’t quote a build price/time
@DSAYIMBY If your solution is to build more housing, landlords will just buy that housing. There isn’t a housing shortage there’s a housing hoarding problem. What you have to do is make hoarding assets really expensive. Tax the absolute shit out of land.
@DSAYIMBY Without fixing LAHD case handling, inspection policies, or creating a line/dept for tenants to provide evidence, the LLs running will be safe. Even worse: “Abundant Housing” still has to answer & implement protocols made by its masters: LAHD & #LosAngeles x.com/bob_agalloo/st…

@DSAYIMBY You think tenent protections will INCREASE the supply of housing? How.
