I’d like to weigh in on NBC news' recent decision to hire Ronna McDaniel. By giving her a platform, NBC has given legitimacy to the lies she helped the former president spread. Now we come to the why. Why would NBC News hire someone as controversial? Here’s the reason: News gathering is a business, and the networks have prioritized widening their audience. They feel the need to show their Republican bona fides by hiring conservative voices. But that is the crux of the problem. Which Republicans? Trump loyalists who are election deniers and January 6 apologists? To me, that doesn’t seem like the answer. It’s another reason independent journalism is essential right now, essential to provide unvarnished coverage in one of the most important elections in American history and to hold the mainstream media accountable. ↓
@DanRather My take: Comcast/NBC top brass are appeasing #FatHitler in the event he becomes dictator. It didn’t work in Germany & they’ll regret it here. Along with the rest of us!
@DanRather @NotHoodlum That @NBCNews decided to scale back Ronna and subject viewers to another overlooked coup plotter only SOME of the time, should annoy those who value the truth even more. #IndependentJournalism
@DanRather It's always a plus to hire someone who responds well to criticism.
@DanRather Chuck Todd called NBC out for it. Joe Scarborough called NBC out for it.
There is also a material difference between a Trump supporter, even election denier, and someone like McDaniel who was literally directly involved in trying to convince MI to not certify its election AND in the organization of the fake electors. You know, someone who ISN'T an unindicted co-conspirator.
@DanRather STFU. YOU WERE FIRED FOR LYING. MSNBC LIED ABOUT RUSSIAN COLLUSION. CNN LIES ABOUT EVERYTHING. JUST STFU!
@DanRather Why would CBS give you the anchor chair after you lied about the contents of the Zapruder film? I know, it was a reward.
@DanRather They have prioritized entertainment. They could totally find a conservative who was not a liar and fraud.
@DanRather Yep! Let's be very careful not to let anyone hear a different opinion! Simply cannot have that in journalism! ...sick
