While local election results continue to come in, it is clear that the Lib Dems have had the best night out of all major parties.
At time of posting the Lib Dems have a net gain of 304 councillors and control of 8 councils.
As results come in for the local elections its important to keep in mind that they may not reflect national trends and instead typically focus on more local issues
However with politics as it is at the moment, most rules have been thrown out the window
