the idea that I could never master art, that I’ll always fall short with a finished painting and that I’ll always be chasing some weird elusive “skill” goal - it’s very exciting and it’s why I love art
I love thinking about the next thing I’ll get to work on and how I’ll make up for my errors there, my crits for myself, it’s a great 🥕
@DaveRapoza Totally agree. Its a journey that we start and never truly finish. No matter how much time we put into it, we could do it forever and never master it. I love it
@DaveRapoza If they do a doc on an artist they should also include all the ideas that never get created. Creatives are prone to having a million ideas but realistically face time constraints—only some make the cut. It depends on what they create and how many different areas they create in.
@DaveRapoza There's always a constant dance between marveling at your progress and realizing your limits/flaws, pushing you to try harder. I hope it never ends
@DaveRapoza "Abandon the idea that you are ever going to finish. Lose track of the 400 pages and write just one page for each day, it helps. Then when it gets finished, you are always surprised." -John Steinbeck
@DaveRapoza @RustedIMG I feel very similarly. Not only is it exciting that there’s always room to grow, there are so many methods/techniques to do the thing you want to do. It’s basically limitless!
@DaveRapoza If it was solvable it wouldn’t be interesting
@DaveRapoza How do I develop a mindset like this? I haven't really drawn in like two years because I feel so beaten down by the very goal you're encouraged by.
@DaveRapoza Being edged by the elusiveness of mastery
@DaveRapoza Worth it everytime when you see that bit of progress 😁
