The actually really concerning fact is that what is going on behind closed doors - in grant and manuscript review - is likely so much worse. Especially if people at this level have no issues voicing opinions of this type in a prestigious public setting.

@SchindlerLab I still think critical data are missing: Where are the rejection rates of male corresponding authors? These are the data one must compare! It is obvious that there are fewer papers from corresponding female authors given demographic history.
