Today I was ordained a Catholic priest. May I reintroduce you to this man. Rev. Fr. Donald Tobenna OBIUKWU, whose entire being is now configured to Jesus Christ.
Dark humour at its peak 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You are not alone, Dr. Some people in the parish where I celebrated Mass today also expressed the same confusion. Let me offer some explanation based on my homily for today. First, it is the first son that did his father’s will. The reason is because although he initially said “No,” he later changed his mind and went to work in the vineyard. The second son on the other hand said “Yes, sir,” but never went. What Jesus is teaching us with this parable is that obedience is ultimately demonstrated by what we do, not merely by what we say. This is where the reference to tax collectors and prostitutes comes in. Jesus was speaking to the chief priests and elders, people who outwardly appeared religious and claimed to be faithful to God. Yet when John the Baptist came preaching repentance, they refused to believe him. The tax collectors and prostitutes, despite their sinful past, listened to John's message, repented and believed (Mt 21:31-32). It does not mean that Jesus was saying that prostitution or extortion through tax was good, nor was he declaring that sin does not matter. Not at all! He was rather saying that a sinner who genuinely repents and turns to God is closer to the Kingdom than a religious person who claims to obey God but refuses to repent. A wrong beginning (No, I will not go) does not have to determine our ending. The first son changed his mind and went. That is the grace of conversion which all of us need in order to do Father's will.
Padre @FrUgochukwu I want you to help me with something. Today’s gospel was a bit confusing. Who amongst the sons did God say did his father’s will? First or second and why? The analogy of tax collectors and prostitutes confused me! Please help padre
God’s not holding the past against you. He’s not upset because you ignored Him; He’s not turned off because you didn’t believe. His love is unconditional. He’s waiting for you. His arms are opened wide to receive you. Just find your way back to Him.
For those that don't know what he looks like, I present to you the legendary Sir Jude Nnam. ❤️🙏
