A literacy podcast I went on last winter has a "bullshit button" they use for calling out guests, and the *only time* they used it during my appearance was over my criticism of Moms 4 Liberty. Makes sense now. 😅

@CovingtonEDU Why is it offensive to act as an ethical educator and train all parents about literacy instruction? Aren’t all children deserving of an appropriate education and to have the ability to read and write?
@Debra_Tisler How does Moms For Liberty contribute to the aims of literacy instruction?
@CovingtonEDU Why would anyone hold back on an opportunity to discuss the provision of appropriate literacy instruction? As a teacher, would you pick and choose the audience you educate? @CovingtonEDU
@Debra_Tisler I am fine with going into critical spaces provided that critique remains the focus of the conversation, but that was clearly not the intent of the host nor the guest. We certainly have a choice about who we lend legitimacy to in our education work. M4L ain't it.
@CovingtonEDU Any amount of time is a chance to provide critical information to the public about literacy instruction.
@Debra_Tisler So what do you think a group like Moms For Liberty & their following is going to do with this critical information? youtube.com/watch?v=JNaw_Z…
@CovingtonEDU If you agree all children require appropriate literacy instruction and have the right to read and write, you should engage with m4l on common-ground initiatives.
@Debra_Tisler When the not-common-ground includes persecuting trans kids, driving wedges between teachers, kids, & parents, and siphoning off public money to pay for private education, no thanks. Those issues need to be addressed first.
