Normalize not bringing up a similar story about yourself when someone is telling you something about themselves, just listen
@KaroroMitchelle Bringing up similar stories isn't always about shifting focus, often it's our way of saying "I hear you, I understand, I can relate". Listening is key, but shared experiences can bridge the gap too.
@DeeWaynee94 @KaroroMitchelle Similar stories is how we build bridges and cultivate compassion in future generations, as long as one isn't making it about themselves.
@DeeWaynee94 @KaroroMitchelle How about this: go further down their rabbit hole first before wanting to go down yours.
@DeeWaynee94 @KaroroMitchelle I wouldn’t mind someone bringing up similar stories. Especially if they have a different perspective I hadn’t really thought of.
@DeeWaynee94 @KaroroMitchelle life is very difficult for ppl who think suffering is a unique experience which has only been revealed to them in human history
@DeeWaynee94 @KaroroMitchelle Right, the key is not to talk over the person. Taking the time to listen helps ensure you're sharing relatable information that makes the person feel seen & supported. Friends do listen, but they also have conversations. They're not just there for you to emotionally unload on.
@DeeWaynee94 @KaroroMitchelle relating personally is good but hear them out for a bit first rather than doing it right away
@DeeWaynee94 @KaroroMitchelle I agree with you but also can’t we just and just interact be and not have to analyze these things in ridiculous therapy speak
@DeeWaynee94 @KaroroMitchelle Absolutely! I do this all the time and I hope people don’t think I’m trying to take attention away from them, just relating and showing them that I understand.
