#Passiflora x allardii is one of those plants you have to meet in the flesh to appreciate. The scent is somewhat like citrus flowers. However it is a bit tricky being particularly prone to spider mites and weakish growth. When the flowers open all is forgiven!

Today’s #passiflora - the wonderfully free flowering P. ‘Pura Vida’ & P. x violacea which is borderline hardy but performs really well in the greenhouse P. x violacea has been mis-sold as ‘Pura Vida’ &some confusion remains to this day (confusingly there are 3 forms of Pura Vida)

Some pleasing progress with our #passiflora x exoniensis grafted to P. caerulea rootstock a few weeks ago. It has taken &new buds breaking out at leaf joints. Still misting daily. Graft union looks pretty tidy too. Reason for doing this &further progress as the season continues.

With (hopefully) warmer nights and sunny days ahead it’s time to install our high tech shading system for the greenhouse. #Ensete ventricosum ‘Hiniba’ X2 (well 1.5) + purple leaved Ensete ventricosum Montbeliardii.

Among a huge amount of weeding & watering, today’s task was to build a ‘floating support’ for the peonies before they flower and collapse under their own weight. Used what my dad (whose favourite/only tool was a hammer) would have called ‘unwarranted precision’.

Here’s a bit of a flowering flush (yesterday) from #passiflora ‘Pura Vida’, a remarkable and free flowering hybrid from S Kamstra in 1996. It has taken to the greenhouse like a duck to plum sauce.

This morning’s job was to start planting out phase 1 of the boat at the end of the road. We had very little notice that last year’s team were dropping out (the least said about that the better - if you know, you know!) but fortunately lots of back up plants for the garden.

I’m still very impressed with our #passiflora amethystina x P. caerulea cross (our first controlled cross). This is the second seedling & has better shaped & coloured flowers with a strong scent and, as you can see is very free flowering. I will be taking cuttings soon!
