This is a great article by a Malaysian scholar, detailing how "America’s sick obsession with China will ruin itself and the world" scmp.com/opinion/china-… The main point the author makes is common sense, basically arguing that "the US is gripped by a debilitating Sinophobia, a pervasive fear that could result in misdiagnosing problems, with potentially devastating consequences." A great example the author gives is fentanyl, a crisis the US attributes to China (and during their last meeting Xi agreed with Biden to limit the export of fentanyl precursor chemicals) but which, in truth, is fueled by multiple factors "including inadequate regulation and weak oversight leading to over-prescription, pharmaceutical companies’ aggressive marketing strategies and socioeconomic distress". If you blame China for it, you do misdiagnose the issue, and it won't get resolved... All in all "merely focusing on external threats will not resolve the profound issues vexing America. The origin of these problems is intrinsic to the US and demand internal solutions, necessitating a critical process of self-reflection and self-correction." Same thing on the global stage. The author rightly points out a key paradox: "Why would Beijing [help] mediate for peace in Europe and the Middle East when this would free the US to pivot towards the Asia-Pacific to oppose China?" It makes zero sense. Or same thing for climate change. On one hand the U.S. says it's committed to help resolve the issue but on the other hand you just had Janet Yellen start a new crusade against China's "overcapacity" in green tech (actually a buzzword for Chinese competitiveness), which can only result in slowing down the roll out of climate change mitigation measures everywhere. Last but not least, the whole world sees and understands this, just like this Malaysian scholar does. So in the end this "debilitating Sinophobia" leads to Washington effectively shooting itself in the foot, as the world progressively comes to the conclusion that it is they who unreasonably hinder progress and worsen the global crisis we all suffer.
@RnaudBertrand I don't think it's Sinophobia. Rather the American model is not about becoming more successful itself, but about making sure nobody else becomes more successful. So that they can exploit everyone. Basically, hegemonistic neocolonialism.
@DianelosG @RnaudBertrand Practically, PNAC, and Kristol, Kagan, Nuland, and many others are still histrionically active to force it upon all mankind. But we need to see the huge but mostly hidden theological factor, and how this merges into a cult. Starting point: Tianxia is incompatible to Universalism.
@DianelosG @RnaudBertrand Agree entirely China is outcompeting US and that is the issue. Nothing to do with being China. Australia would get the same treatment if hypothetically it had an economy like Chinas.
@DianelosG @RnaudBertrand Yes, absolutely agree. Like my people, Serbs, think that Americans hate us too. It is true. But it is also true that they "hate" everyone in general, hence everyone in particular. Of course, those that challenge their vision are visibly attacked, but they want to dominate...
