Chamath says his company's AI token bill is doubling every 45 days while output gains barely move. "I sat down with my CTO today, I said how are we doing on token spend. And he said the most incredible thing, he said right now, our token costs are doubling every 45 days. I said well what is the downstream productivity? And he said maybe 5% max." "So my costs are doubling every 45 days, my upside is essentially flat. He said honestly, what we're finding out is that you need to use a lot more tokens to get to this next iteration of improvement because we've effectively already asymptoted." "We're going to take a step back and try to figure out what to do. I don't know how many other companies will actually go through this reckoning now, but the point is everybody in the next three or four years will for sure go through it." "I suspect that if you can get out now, you should get out now before all of that starts to seep into the water table. Because I think that's probably what allows you to get out at a huge price and raise a huge amount of money." Interested in AI? Follow @AiEvolutio58513 and never fall behind. The benefits of AI are dangerously concentrated. Today they accrue to a handful of labs and to one industry, software, whose work happens to look like the internet the models were trained on. Changing that is the single biggest untapped lever for economic growth this decade.🧵

@jon_durbin pre-trained a 20B MoE for under $10 an hour of compute. Not on a cluster. Eight rented single-L40S VMs scattered across two continents, plus a few 4090s and a 5090, all holding roughly 6 seconds per step. Pre-training was supposed to be the part you couldn't do

Centralized AI companies like @AnthropicAI are more vulnerable to government intervention. Decentralized AI technology like $TAO @opentensor offers an alternative. Bittensor provides open source, permissionless access to AI through a decentralized global network. Following the suspension of Anthropic's AI model, $TAO rallied sharply, climbing 30% in just 12 hours. Read more on this from @LowBeta on the Stack: grayscale.com/the-stack/anth…

Our AI Research Lead, Dr. Alan Aboudib, has been instrumental in building @IOTA_SN9 and launching Orion-100B, the largest distributed LLM pretraining run conducted over the open internet across globally distributed infrastructure. We spoke with Alan about his background,

At 'Proof of Talk' in Paris this past week, @const_reborn asked Macrocosmos to fire up a decentralized AI model pre-training run for him. They made him pay 5 TAO. Within minutes, the IOTA network of computers around the world began training. Liquid, scalable, fault-tolerant, on-demand training for AI models. No Colossus required. Computer owners are earning crypto for AI training -- AirBnB'ing their hardware. This was a magical little 'Hello, World' moment.

Today, we are launching the first stage of Project Orion. Our early pre-training run of Orion-100B achieves upward of 65% of data-center training efficiency on hardware costing a fraction of the price. Orion-100B is the first proof point for a simple idea: that underutilized

From Const this morning. Great news IMO. bittensor:native "Hello @everyone in the Bittensor family. Public service announcement: Starting next week we will be introducing an interim measure to block emissions on Bittensor subnets which are engaging in active foul play and or with no clear path to adding value into the Bittensor ecosystem. This will need to be done on a case-by-case basis, however the criteria for blocked emissions will revolve around the following: 1) Long-term burning of 100% miner emissions with no plan from the team to bring them online. 2) Active self-mining i.e. subnets that do not have code and instead use stake weight to pass emissions to their own keys. 3) Dead or fully abandoned subnets, or those that have not announced themselves i.e. "unclaimed" subnets. 4) Subnets engaged in TaoFlow exploitation, such as 104, which have very little to no chain activity from the network at large. A chain operation to block emission will be available on Tuesday to carry this out. Note this not a long term solution, as further protocol upgrades such as conviction, shorting, and the eventual full decentralized governance system of Bittensor will be coming into play this year -- these methods will allow much more organic and swarm based intelligence to organize Bittensor's emission vector. In the near term, I believe that there is broad support and consensus for this activity as it will drive more value towards subnets on Bittensor (you know who you are) that are pushing forward a decentralized vision for artificial intelligence. Thank you everyone Much love - Const"

@jerallaire Well designed but still quite far from an institutional investment memo

Wow, KelpDAO comes out and says: > 2 of LayerZero’s RPCs were hacked > it was LayerZero internal compromise that led to the exploit > they took fast action to prevent another $75m vulnerability > the 1/1 DVN was the suggested setup from LayerZero & even after they asked further about it during the transition to L2s, it was kept the same > blames LZ for the setup My goodness. Absolutely no one taking any responsibility and no real detail on the loss socialization for Aave users still. I think we are all underestimating how long the WETH & stablecoin pools may be frozen.
