#Bears have 2 WR1s on their roster 🔸 DJ Moore had 96 catches, 1364 yds, 8 TDs in his best season last year. 🔸 Keenan Allen had 108 catches, 1243 yds, and 7 TDs in his best season last year. Why are we asking this question? Because #Bears can’t draft a top WR to grow behind him in case we don’t extend Allen past this season? Or even if we do, we can’t have 3 great WRs on the roster? With a new OC who is a Top 10-12 playcaller and generates a lot more passing offense & yards in his system that can actually support 3 WRs, 2 TEs & a main receiving RB? That can produce 4500+ passing yards a year? When we are about to draft Caleb Williams with 1.01? Who has more than ample talent and capacity to make those throws? Lol. It’s ok, in a response to that post, JT said he also doesn’t think we should make Cole Kmet a focus of our passing offense. Cole Kmet. Coming off his best year & still with plenty of ceiling. 73 catches, 719 yds & 7 TDs. Cole Kmet. Who was 2nd among all WRs & TEs with an 81% catch rate. Even better than Travis Kelce’s. Let’s not make that guy with the 2nd stickiest, clutch hands in the NFL a focus of our passing game, just because JT has well established he isn’t a fan of his? Cole Kmet is about to become one of Caleb’s favorite targets. Kind of like Kelce is Mahomes’. 😂😂😂 You can’t make this up.

@kct2020 we are asking it cause i disagree. if you have two, you want to grow to have 3? there is only one ball. two WR1s seems nice, maybe hard to keep everyone happy but a nice problem. 3 seems tough to impossible.
I don’t disagree it may be tough to impossible. However, by saying this, you are telling me that you have a narrow, one year focus exclusively on managing the roster concerns of keeping 3 WRs under contract (one as a rookie) productive & happy with getting enough of their share of the ball, with an assumption of full health for all of them all 17 game season long And you aren’t thinking like a GM. 1️⃣ GM Goal: Modernize the offense. On a team that has never had a 4K yard passer but yet has/is investing in drafting a generational QB prospect and putting him in arguably the best situation for a rookie QB in the last 20 years with top shelf weapons & an aggressive, dynamic OC known for his passing game to actually modernize this offense for the first time in franchise history? With a robust passing game the most important factor correlated with W-L and playoff success? I doubt Poles is worried about WRs noses being bent out of shape and keeping them all productive & having a rookie’s feelings hurt like JSN for a season if he doesn’t get enough targets. Those are rich franchise passing game problems. Let’s first get the rich passing game established for the first time in 56 years of modern NFL existence, then worry about that. 2️⃣ GM Goal: Ensure consistent availability of top weapons with depth that can weather inevitable injuries across a 17 game season. With an aging Allen who has missed 12 games in the last three seasons. With a franchise who historically has had bad injury luck on offense, especially on OL & in WR room. The image attached is the #Bears Island of Misfit Toys WR room from 2022, Poles first season. 👀 Just look at the amount of WR injuries we had. Poles knows better to be in that situation again. And you can’t bank on your top 2 WRs being available every game. And depth is also a concern. Right now, WR proven talent & production drops off a cliff after DJ & Keenan. 🔸 Unproven WR3 as Tyler Scott 🔸 Unsuccessful WR4 Velus Jones 🔸 As-unclutch as you get WR5 Dante Pettis only really here for PR 🔸 Some guy at WR6 I don’t even recognize No GM would be comfortable with any of them as WR2 if DJ or Keenan got hurt. Not having a far more talented WR3 is criminal 3️⃣ GM Goal: Build roster with a mix of key FA and young, homegrown talent to best manage salary cap AND keep short & long-term roster in mind. We already have DJ at $23.5M AAV for next two seasons & will need to resign in 2026. Allen is at $20M and may go up even at his age. Together, that’s 17% of our cap this year #Bears haven’t yet extended Allen & may decide not to at his high price tag. For Poles, it may be better to move on from Allen & reset that WR position on a rookie contract with Rome. 4️⃣. Who #Bears have as two WR1s matters. (And I don’t buy into the definition there are under 10 legit WR1s in the NFL btw) Poles selects for skill and type of player & person. DJ Moore has already said what matters most to him is winning. Even if that means he gets less yards. Keenan Allen wants to win. These are mature, selfless, team-first professional WR1s who want to win playoff games. Kmet is the same as a TE1. I don’t think they will complain & it will be a huge issue if one gets the ball more or less. And they all just might have big seasons and a WR3 can too. This isn’t a zero-sum game. And if Poles elected to draft Rome, he won’t be the first or last WR who might not get the ball as much as he wants as a rookie. Welcome to the NFL. It’s OK to have the debate. And I’m not even saying the #Bears should definitely draft Rome at 1.09. In this deep of a WR class, EDGE2 like Turner or DT/3T like Murphy may be the better use of that 1.09 pick there or traded down. But I don’t agree with you that the #Bears shouldn’t draft a WR at 1.09 for the reason you stated. Because that’s not the main criteria a good GM in this situation would think about. And we have a good GM in Poles
@kct2020 @theqbschool As usual, Kirsten from the top rope!
