🥦🔍 MIDWAY RECAP — Day 1 of Testimony With thanks to @GrantSmithEllis — Towel has a seat in that courtroom and is bringing the testimony out as it happens. Before the first witness was called, the judge allowed the government's curative-instructions motion (Doc 339), reminded both sides that nullification has no home in her courtroom, and took the government's affairs-evidence motion under consideration. Witness 1, Det. Heather Cheever, laid down the spine of this case under oath. She met Sandra Birchmore at 15, in the Stoughton Police Explorers — and pointed out Matthew Farwell, an Explorers instructor, sitting in the courtroom. In May 2020 she answered a wellbeing check and did not believe Sandra was suicidal. By the fall of 2020, Sandra was running up to her in a parking lot, lit up about a new job working with children. Witness 2, Sandra's school supervisor, remembered a young woman who told everyone she was pregnant — and said that being told it was suicide "didn't make sense to me." Witness 3 walked Canton PD to Sandra's door. Unit 3307. Canton is in this record now, spoken under oath. No perimeter post can take it back out. Back at 2:00 PM. This afternoon: MSP Trooper Matthew Dunne. #SandraBirchmore #FarwellTrial #TrueCrime

🚨 From Stoughton PD's own internal affairs report (2022): As teenagers, the Farwell brothers were caught impersonating police and pulling cars over. William Farwell's background file says he was counseled about it by Sgt. Robert Devine himself. Devine later sat on the hiring panel — that fact in the file — ran the Explorer program where Sandra Birchmore met Matthew, and when IA finally asked, denied knowing any of it. The investigator's conclusion: "I do not view Robert Devine to be a credible person." #SandraBirchmore #FarwellTrial

🚨 I watched The Forensic Room's Birchmore episode. It calls the Meg Kennedy story a rumor that needed dispelling. It wasn't a rumor — it was an inference, drawn from the defense's own words. In her opening, Stevens told the jury: "Her counselor that you will hear from said her first suicide attempt was in her early teenage years." No name attached. Kennedy was Sandra's high-school counselor, and she is on the prosecution's witness list. The defense left the blank; people filled it. Twisting that into a baseless rumor is its own kind of edit. And "they would have charged the investigators if it was a cover-up" is a conclusion no document supports. Absence of charges is a decision, not an acquittal. The record — the IA report, the amended death certificate, the federal indictment — says the original ruling collapsed. For Farwell, the episode follows the evidence. For the institutions, it extends the benefit of the doubt. Two standards, one episode. 👀 #SandraBirchmore #FarwellTrial

January 31, 2022 — two days after John O'Keefe's body is found. A state trooper emails the file to Proctor and calls it what it is: "a ped crash." A pedestrian crash. Before the ME ever weighed in. 🧵

You're right, and the law knows it — that's what statutes of limitations are. The system admitting that time kills defense. Murder is the exception. The exception costs exactly what you described: the state keeps its file for decades, but nobody tells the suspect to keep their alibi. Time degrades both sides asymmetrically. So why no clock? Two reasons. The obvious one: hide long enough, walk free. The darker one: the state holds the monopoly on violence only because it promises justice. Put an expiration date on murder and you tell every grieving family the system has a deadline — and when it passes, the only justice left is their own. Then they're the ones in prison, and the system manufactured a second tragedy instead of resolving the first. That's why the fairness mechanism isn't a clock. It's the burden — beyond a reasonable doubt, on the state, always. A burden that never moves.

I'm sorry but trying someone 10+ years after an alleged crime makes the right to a fair trial nearly impossible. How do you prove a rock-solid alibi when phone records, texts, and security footage are long gone? I have no idea what the right answer is because I hate the

Exactly the right question — it's the whole case. The ME testified she found no evidence of an impact site on the body. Manner of death: undetermined. The Commonwealth's reconstructionist was allowed "consistent with being struck" but barred from saying a collision occurred. The same expert wrote the taillight "was not broken" at 5:07 AM — hours after the alleged strike — then called the "totality of the evidence" consistent with the Lexus hitting him. His firm billed $599,735.45 on a $75,000-max contract. They bought the machinery of certainty and still couldn't get past "not ruled out." Beyond a reasonable doubt can't rest on what nobody ruled in.

@DetBroccoli Thus she does not rule the death a homicide and says she is 50/50 on if he was hit by a vehicle. How would she know if the injuries were consistent with a vehicle collision if she didn't know how the vehicle collided.

Some people turn to astrology to explain their personality. I observe the Ontario justice system. I was born on the exact day the Crown handed Karla Homolka her infamous plea deal. While I was taking my first breath, the state was busy signing the most catastrophic, manipulated legal contract in Canadian history. By the time they found the tapes proving she was the architect of her sister's death, the ink was dry. It’s no wonder I grew up to build forensic archives and dismantle true crime narratives for fun. I learned on Day One that courts do not negotiate the truth. They negotiate risk. 🥦

Opening statements started today in U.S. v. Matthew Farwell — the former Stoughton police officer charged with killing 23-year-old Sandra Birchmore and staging her death as suicide. The charges: • Count 1 — Killing a witness, 18 U.S.C. § 1512(a)(1)(C). The allegation: she died because she threatened to expose him. • Count 2 — Killing her unborn son, 18 U.S.C. § 1841 (superseding indictment, Oct 28, 2025). Mandatory life. Farwell was a Police Explorers instructor. Birchmore joined the program at 12. The file tells the story better than I can. 🧵

Okay I need one of these, that’s so cool!

Another case where new information has emerged. This year, Douglas Barry was identified as a person of interest, with multiple witnesses mentioning him. Police firmly believe Brian encountered foul play that night. 🔍

Dad says ICE is making us less safe. Meanwhile Massachusetts is the least affordable state in the country and the MBTA still can’t get a shuttle to the right station. Priorities, Dad. Priorities. 🚇

One of the kids in the classroom has also recently spoken out. I’ll be honest, I’ve thought that the theory suggesting he died in the woods requires too many leaps. Happy to see this case gaining attention lately. koin.com/news/portland/…
