I'm at the pediatrician office for a well child visit with my daughter. Appointment was 9:20. Vitals taken and paperwork filled out, but still waiting to see a doctor. Reason #30584 of why healthcare in the US sucks. Why can every other sector keep appts, but physicians can't?
@sgremminger Why would they get behind? If you can’t answer why, seek to understand. Lesson one, prior authorization calls. Don’t want to wait? Then pay the bill, don’t use insurance.
@TakeWeightOffMD Most other industries have managed to deal with administrative headaches while running efficient enterprises. Why can't doctor's offices?
@sgremminger Name an administrative task equivalent to prior authorization of a medical service, medical imaging or medicine. That holds up direct patient care.
@TakeWeightOffMD Right. But prior auth has been around for years. How is it that every morning physicians are surprised by having to make prior auth calls? Why is it that they schedule as if they won't have to do it and then are shocked when they do?
@sgremminger @TakeWeightOffMD You do know that not everyone is there for a well child visit right? Sometimes human beings are quite sick and have unpredictable complex issues that need more than the allotted 15 minute visit. Comparing a business enterprise to taking care of a human being is just wrong.
@Dr_RShatsky @sgremminger @TakeWeightOffMD Time and being a doctor: "PCPs were estimated to require 26.7 h/day, comprising of 14.1 h/day for preventive care, 7.2 h/day for chronic disease care, 2.2 h/day for acute care..PCPs do not have enough time to provide the guideline-recommended primary care" ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…
@Dr_RShatsky @sgremminger @TakeWeightOffMD health policy guy thinks human interactions are akin to flipping burgers
@Dr_RShatsky @sgremminger @TakeWeightOffMD The day comes for us all when we’re glad the doctor takes a little extra time for us.
@Dr_RShatsky @sgremminger @TakeWeightOffMD This is exactly why healthcare, an essential service to everyone's constitutional rights to *life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness*, should have *NEVER* been operated with any kind of profit motive/influence in USA or anywhere else! 🤬
@Dr_RShatsky @sgremminger @TakeWeightOffMD This this this this. In most sectors we have more patients to care for than time to do so, and have to prioritize who we see first and for how long. Even when it's appointment style, unexpected exam results / etc. can easily make it run long, delaying the next appointment.
@Dr_RShatsky @sgremminger @TakeWeightOffMD This is the one. Some patients take 45 minutes. And can’t kick en out if they have needs and concerns that only a physician can address
@Dr_RShatsky @sgremminger @TakeWeightOffMD As a mom of a now adult autistic son, we were known to make multiple stops at our pediatricians office in a single day, with his creativity. 💁🏻♀️ Thank god for patience all around! 💙
