Starting September 2026, a silent update pushed by Google, will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with Google, signed their contract, paid up, and handed over government ID. Google calls the new rule Android Developer Verification. This starts with Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand expanding worldwide in 2027 every app on certified Android phones must come from a developer who has registered their real identity with Google. This covers apps from the Play Store, third-party stores, and sideloaded APKs. Here’s what developers have to do: They sign up in Google’s new verification system, share their legal name, address, phone number, and ID, and pay a one-time $25 fee. Apps from unverified developers will be blocked or come with big warnings and extra steps. Google doing this to fight malware, the company says sideloaded apps are about 50 times more likely to contain bad software than Play Store apps. Android is becoming a little more controlled with all of this changes

“My question is, how do you appeal your sentence once your car, the technology in your car, has judged you to be incapable of driving? Once it’s disabled you and your children at the side of the road, how do you appeal that?” @RepThomasMassie open.substack.com/pub/classythom…

VPNs will not be permitted to be used by the public in less than 5 years unless we do something about it.

BTW folks, your Linux system is getting a new standard folder called "Projects" in the home directory.

PlayStation support has confirmed that a new digital rights management policy for the console is intentional, not a glitch. Starting with any digital games purchased after the March 2026 system update, your PS5 will require an internet connection at least once every 30 days to validate the license. If the console stays offline longer than that, the games simply will not launch until you reconnect. This change does not affect any titles already in your library. Setting a console as your primary system also will not bypass the monthly check-in.

You're kidding me. Newgrounds, you're kidding me, right? Newgrounds, I MADE THIS ART PIECE!!! WHY THE F*CK DO I NEED AGE VERIFICATION TO VIEW ART I MADE??!!! WTF??!!!

Google has a pirate enemy. He's one guy. His name is Raymond Hill. He built uBlock Origin. The world's best ad blocker. 63K stars. GPL-3.0. He literally refuses every dollar you try to send him. Then Google did the unthinkable. July 24, 2025. Manifest V2 disabled everywhere. The full uBlock Origin stopped working on Chrome. The world's biggest ad company nuked the world's biggest ad blocker on its own browser. They called it "security." Coincidence. Here's the wildest part: Raymond didn't fold. Latest release: March 11, 2026. Still alive on Firefox. Still alive on Edge. Still alive on Brave. Still GPL-3.0. Still refusing every dollar. One developer vs. the trillion-dollar ad empire. But DO NOT install it. We should all keep Google richer. 100% Open Source. (Link in the comments)

Prohibiting use of YOUR private property without due process is a direct violation of the 4th Amendment. This includes; - Automobile kill switches - CBDC - Every tokenized asset tied to your Digital ID (which will be all of them) This does not even address exclusion from: - Utilities - Public and commercial transportation - Government services

This bill could change everything for American Creators and our Freedom of Expression, but it has gotten so little attention. H.R. 4678 The Restoring Artistic Protection Act, introduced by Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), would create a strong legal presumption that creative works cannot be used as evidence in federal criminal or civil cases. It covers all creative expression, including: • Video Games • Comics & Animation • Movies & TV Shows • Books & Literature • Visual Art & Scripts Fictional storylines, characters, dialogue, artwork, and gameplay would be presumed inadmissible. Prosecutors could only overcome this with a pretrial hearing and clear and convincing evidence that it’s directly relevant, not just character assassination. No more treating art as confession. This would give game devs, comic artists, animators, and filmmakers real breathing room to create bold, edgy, and unfiltered content without lawsuit chill. It currently has 21 Democrat cosponsors, but something this important needs bipartisan support and hearings in Judiciary. Similar protections have already passed in Georgia, Louisiana, and Missouri with Republican backing. After 15+ years, Americans are tired of watching their sanitized culture wither away while other countries continue to make great works for the world to enjoy, we want to have pride in the art that our country produces, and it is high time that American creators were able to build freely and without fear again. @JudiciaryGOP @Jim_Jordan @RepThomasMassie @RepChipRoy @RepAndyBiggsAZ @RepMcClintock @RepTroyNehls @repdarrellissa

@FUTO_Tech I just got a banner at the top of f-droid when I opened it up today. It looks like Google is going to make it a lot more difficult to sideload apps whose developers haven't registered with Google. keepandroidopen.org

Age verification puts all users at risk of data breaches, EFF’s Rin Alajaji told @business, and requiring ID for social media could chill speech, particularly from whistleblowers or activists who rely on anonymity. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

There's a group coordinating attacks on GrapheneOS on X via a Telegram group. They have a couple dozen accounts here. They've based their attacks around claiming modular builds and updates via packages somehow aren't open source. We debunked this here: x.com/GrapheneOS/sta…

We've written this post as a thorough debunking of extraordinarily inaccurate and misinformed claims being made about GrapheneOS. The main post making these claims is linked at the bottom. A growing number of our apps are built and signed separately from the OS to provide

systemd has implemented a birthDate field in compliance with age verification laws from a few govnmts and is censoring or limiting the open debate around that topic here's a list of systemd-free Linux distros: (out of those, I know Devuan and Artix devs have already pronounced against complying with the age verification law at the OS layer, making them likely safe alternatives moving forward -- Devuan is based on Debian and Artix on Arch) + Devuan + Void + Artix + Guix + Gentoo + Funtoo + Loc-OS + Alpine + Slackware + Antix + Venon + PCLinuxOS + Gobo + Obarun + Kiss + LiGurOS + Sulinos + Crux + Dragora + Glaucus + Hyperbola + Nutyx + Parabola + Slitaz + Puff + Core + Chimera + Nxos + Peppermintos + MxLinux + OpenWRT image is from nosystemd[dot]org
