I dont want UK people with any protected characteristic (inc gender reassignment) to give up any equality legal rights they actually have currently. What those precisely are is matter of proper legal interpretation, context specific and balanced with conflicting rights of others
@AudreySuffolk I don’t think GR should be a necessary PC. I believe it could be managed quite well using sex, belief and disability as required. If people look at it objectively (good luck with that).
@DuncanHenry78 People (other than equality lawyers) keep saying that. I disagree, respectfully, because precise definitions are not interchangeable (to ensure everyone who currently is protected from unlawful discrimination or harassment would be confident of being so) & the "because of" test.
@DuncanHenry78 How would that protect someone refused service in a pub for being trans? I suppose you could claim that person has GD and is therefore disabled, but how, if GD is not considered a disability by international bodies (and I'm not sure it would pass the test in UK law?)?
@DuncanHenry78 Do folks realise that EVERYBODY is protected by #EA2010 EVERYBODY has an age EVERYBODY has a sex EVERYBODY has a belief - or lack thereof People move in and out of "Protected characteristics" - pregnancy - disability - age It is important that people realise that we are all EA
@DuncanHenry78 How can gender be reassigned when it isn't assigned in the first place?
