Thank you to the @ArchivesOntario for starting the wonderful #ArchivesAtoZ challenge this past month! And to all our fellow participants, keep up the amazing work you do to preserve history and support communities
Z is for Zyp. John Zyp was a teacher, administrator and Fine Arts consultant from 1979 to 1990. John contributed immensely to the arts, not only as an administrator but also as an artist. Some of his art and records of his work may be found in our archives #ArchivesAtoZ
Y is for Yearbooks: The #1 sought after item in our Archive. While our library is not yet complete, we continue to collect new volumes and make what we have available to the public. We digitize our copies, and are able to provide them to patrons virtually #ArchivesAtoZ#ecsd
X is for Xerox-or at least the spirit of: Duplicators. Teachers in our early schools sometimes took advantage of ‘modern’ technology, like this Menucator machine we have. The first mechanical Mimeograph machines were used in our offices starting in the 1960s #ArchivesAtoZ#ecsd
W is for Win! Some records and items in our collections are retained to show our schools’ sports achievements . This plaque - first awarded in 1918 – shows the winning teams of the Separate Schools Jr Basketball Championships #ArchivesAtoZ#ecsd
V is for Vocational Education. In 1961, our Board of Trustees approved a new wing for St Joseph High. When it opened in 1964, Electronics, Foods, Automotives and Carpentry were taught by experienced tradespersons and supported by local companies #ArchivesAtoZ#ecsdfaithinspires
U is for Unprocessed Materials. Processing new acquisitions takes time, and patience. This often means working with a backlog of new arrivals, and working on their accession as time and resources permit #ArchivesAtoZ#ecsdfaithinspires
T is for Teachers’ Convention. These programs from @ATALocal4 organized conventions are an example of our educators’ commitments to their vocation, to collaboration and to lifelong learning. #ArchivesAtoZ#ecsdfaithinspires
Q is for Questions. A big part of our role in the community is: answering questions. We receive research and reference requests from our own schools, communities and from individuals around the world and are always happy to help and collaborate #ArchivesAtoZ#ecsd
P is for Photos. The images in our photo collection document places, people and activities in our schools and sites. They illustrate the things that change, and the things that stay the same from year to year. #ArchivesAtoZ#ecsd
