Iirc, it was plum with a stipend, etc. and posted prominently in the sci bldg. After 6 months they had to open it to international students bc no qualified US applicants

@JennuHarroc @KatieMiller @elonmusk Have you ever sat by a loved one while they suffered, waiting for their inevitable death? In a hospital they undergo violent procedures, painfully prolonging life. If they are lucky, they are in hospice where they literally die from lack of food or water.

@SinoopyS @William_Smith36 Lumber was cut to length, windows were pre glazed. If you have worked in residential construction you know that chopping sticks to the right length is only a small part of the job. The benefit of the sears house was logistics not prefabrication

@sdof5257 @William_Smith36 This kind of solid wood is quite fire resistant. Even if it were to catch fire it would burn slowly and with little loss of structural integrity. Most US homes are stick built and sheathed in wood, which is much less fire resistant.

@SinoopyS @William_Smith36 Sears houses were not factory built. When you purchased a house from Sears Roebuck you received the plans, lumber, fasteners, doors, windows and other materials necessary to build the house. Bear in mind houses were much simpler back then.

It's not just the capital either: the huge size of the US makes domestic supply chains inefficient. To succeed we need dense, diversified industrial zones and trillions in capital.
