You'd hope that Republicans seeing for the first time about how fucked up the criminal justice system is would apply this new anti-carceral knowledge to future cases. But, of course, they won't, because being Republican prevents learning and applying knowledge.

For the record, I think *all criminal defendants* should be allowed to pause their trials to attend lifetime events like graduations and funerals of close blood relatives. But since we're not going to do that for Black people we can't start doing it for Trump.
@ElieNYC The difference here is that the judge didn’t explicitly say he couldn’t go. I thought it wasn’t on a trial day either.
@ElieNYC There is not one single thing Trump did that any black person wouldn't go to jail for! Not a single thing 😢.
@ElieNYC The Courts allow this ALL the time for Blacks, Whites, Asians, Indians, Hispanics. This is the problem with DEI hires. Not the sharpest tools in the shed.
@ElieNYC @MaryLoulbsAlto Trump would dominate the graduation event if he showed up, which might delight some but ruin it for others. It seems likely that he would not show up after being given specific permission to go, just for spite. Didn’t he go play golf in a similar situation before?
@ElieNYC Apart from anything else he is USING his son, to make political points. As a mother of teenage boys, I have some thoughts about how that goes down with the boy's mates, and for his concerns about his mother. The man is devoid of any humanity.
@ElieNYC I respect Elie, despite disagreeing with about 95% of his conclusions. But he’s 100% right on this. Trials are a priority, but they’re not the _only_ priority.
@ElieNYC Well, supposedly Court is not in session on day of graduation.
