Same here. I used to think that a 5 paragraph essay is the definite way to write an essay. But with examples of Kolbert and Ross, I see an even better way to write essays!
#WhatIlearnedin39C The 5 paragraph format was something that I used to depend on a lot when it came to writing academic papers, however, I realised that it can often give a very myopic view of the problem. Breaking out of it definitely helped me add more depth to my essay.
Having my own tweets on environment & sustainability liked by an organization’s account, I have also learned the importance of spreading your voice on twitter.
Prior to this class I was not active on twitter. However, now I realise how effective and informative twitter can be if used in right way. You get to directly hear what the policymakers and environmentalists are saying from them, firsthand. #WhatIlearnedin39C #39CSustain
After taking this class my research skills improved, and I waved goodbye to my previous research habits which lead to poor results and little information. Organizations are helpful because they serve as a good communication bridge to people.
I learned the amount of work it really takes to do good research, and the need for organization. The meta analysis we did on our learning process makes me realize how much I learned and how much more work I need to put in to be a good researcher. #WhatIlearnedin39C #39csustain
I absolutely agree. People often place their own interests over the bigger pictures, ignoring what consequences this could lead to.
I learned that change is hard for people to make, especially if they are comfortable with how things are. Getting government officials and business lobbyists/stakeholders to think beyond their pocketbooks sometimes takes pressure from a united front.#WhatIlearnedin39C
Here is a link to my ePortfolio website, which includes more detail on how I discuss environmental issues, and what contributions and researches I have completed! canvas.eee.uci.edu/eportfolios/80…
Another skill I learned from the class is effectively using the operators when conducting research on Google. This can make my search more useful and discover new information which I couldn’t find without the use of these operators. #WhatIlearnedin39C #39CSustain
Through this class, I learned a new concept called “Climate change denial”. I am very surprised with the existence of such idea and learned how this concept is popular among government officials. #WhatIlearnedin39C #39CSustain
What I learned through the Salton Sea issue is how unsustainable irrigation can have such great harm on the water bodies nearby. Also how important it is to regulate the use of fertilizers to prevent flowing into the lake #WhatIlearnedin39C #39CSustain google.com/amp/s/mercury.…

“Task group includes members like scientists and experts from the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA), Department of Water Resources (DWR), and California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW).” #39CSustain
“The Salton Sea Management Program is a program which receives support from multiple credible organizations and even the Democrats party.” #39CSustain thedesertreview.com/news/newsom-re…
16. Good news is that the program is receiving more funds than before which can ensure the implementation, more workshops are opened to advocate the program, and fortunately, no bad news is found yet. #SaltonSea #39CSustain
15. Though there is no obvious and current evidence that the solution is being blocked by residents and workers, but it is possible that people who do not trust the government will step up against it. @39CSustain
1. The Salton Sea, being flooded with deposits of agricultural runoff like fertilizer and pesticides, is getting saltier and the lake size is also shrinking. As it shrinks, more toxic dust is exposed, hurting the health of Imperial County residents. @39CSustain
